Imagine transforming the way you create documentation. 🤔 How much time would your team save with a faster process?
One of the most valuable resources during my time at GitLab was the culture of documentation. It’s been two years since I left GitLab, and their handbook still helps me get more done! I needed to write up a process I used yesterday and had an idea for a game-changing way to create documentation in no time, and I’m excited to share this with you! 🌟
📚 Here's how to make documentation your team’s superpower with ChatGPT
1️⃣ 🎥 Record a screencast: Grab any screen recording app (mmhmm, Loom, Zoom, etc.) and record yourself performing the task you want to document. Don’t worry about getting the narration perfect. Just focus on the action! 🎥
2️⃣ 🎙 ️Extract audio & transcribe: Use a tool like Descript (or Chorus in your Zoom meeting!) to extract the audio from your video and turn it into a transcript. Many options are available, so choose the tool already in your toolbox! 🎙️
3️⃣ ✨ Leverage ChatGPT: Ask ChatGPT to “Take this transcript and turn it into a help article.” Just paste your transcript under the opening prompt and let the magic happen! ✨
4️⃣ 📝 Edit & store: Review the ChatGPT output, make any necessary edits, and add the document to your doc vault for easy access! 📝
This method took my process for creating documentation from over an hour to just 15 minutes! 😱 Try it out, and let me know how it works for you! Let’s empower our teams with better, faster documentation. 💪
